Card. Thottunkal: The Risen Jesus overcomes marginalization and oppression

The president of the Bishops' Conference of India sends a special Easter message to AsiaNews. The cardinal said that "As Christians we are to live a life of credibility as faithful to Christ and the Gospel", and this is possible even in the midst of tribulation and sacrifice".

Mumbai (AsiaNews ) - "Jesus is Risen, gives us strength to overcomes difficulties, struggles and sufferings and all the situation of , of alienation and discrimination, marginalisation and oppression. At Easter Time, we are empowered with His Resurrection to affirm that the Lord is great and human plans and human designs are nothing before the King of Glory, because the Risen Christ can bring forth life from situations of death", begins the Easter message His Beatitude Mar Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal , president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI ) and Major Archbishop of Trivandrum of the Syro-Malankara sent to AsiaNews.

The Cardinal writes that "human beings though confined to mortal realities are created in the Image and Likeness of God, God is Emmanuel, He is with us, and I pray that Emmanuel, the Risen Lord, who is always with his people, may always strengthen us, filling us with His presence, His wisdom.  He, who is the Light of the World, will enlighten our darkness and the darkness around us, giving us guidance, that we may live a life of glory in the Risen Lord"

"For us in India - he explains - the assurance that God is Emmanuel, He is present within us, and we human beings are created in His Image, renews our Hope.  People at the periphery, may be considered numerically small continues throughout history, these suffer alienation from the mainstream, Assurance given by the God, that he will be will us always, now and after death.  This is valid for every situation- political and social, religious and secular".

"As Christians, - His Beatitude concludes - We have to live a life, of creditability as followers of Christ and of the Gospel, and this is possible even in the midst of tribulation and sacrifice.  We are not asking for an exception".

"On the crucial issue of choice, our identity as a follower of Jesus, makes clear our choice.  Our lives have a prophetical meaning and Easter is Christ, king of the new creation- creation of a new world order - to bring about peace, a new respect and   dignity and equality of all humankind".
