Card. Pham Minh Man returns home at the end of Vatican meetings
Ho Chi Minh City (AsiaNews) – The recent visit to the Vatican by Cardinal Jean Baptiste Pham OF Ho Chi Minh City, Minh Man will help the Vietnamese bishops to reduce the current "human crisis" and live "new life" with the faithful in the love of Jesus and the Lady of La Vang. This is the prelates first reaction on returning to his home. He is due to speak to the Bishops Conference in the coming days about his Roman visit.
The Cardinal arrived in Rome on May 31, at the end of his meetings with Card. Ivan Dias, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, and Mgr. Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State, the Pope’s "Foreign Minister", he said that "the Holy See knows the current situation of the Church in Vietnam very well".
Interviewed by the Vietnam program of Vatican Radio, the Cardinal also spoke of the appointment of Mgr. Pierre Nguyen Van Nhon to Hanoi taking over from Mgr. Joseph Kiet who resigned, highlighting how the Secretary of State in informing the Vietnamese government stressed that the resignation of Mgr. Kiet had been accepted only to respect his wishes. A statement that refers to the government’s persistent request’s to have Mgr. Kiet removedfrom Hanoi.
With regards his encounter with Card. Dias, Card. Pham Minh Man said the department responsible for mission recommends communion within the Church. "First of all Vietnamese Catholics must help each other. Bishops and priests help the faithful to live in communion with each other on the basis of faith. Secondly, we will help Vietnamese Catholics at home and abroad increasingly to pray to Our Lady of La Vang”.
