Cancelled circus featuring performing dogs deemed “unethical”
The event was scheduled for Chinese New Year in February 2018, which coincides with the Year of the Dog. Some seven thousand signatures were collected in a campaign against the "inhumane" show.
Singapore (AsiaNews/Agencies) – A Chinese circus featuring performing dogs cancelled its Singapore show after it was criticised for being “cruel and unethical”.
It was scheduled for next February and the Chinese New Year, which this year coincides with the Year of the Dog.
The event was promoted with posters showing poodles with dyed pink fur clapping their paws and doing handstands (pictured).
Change.org, a petition website, launched a campaign calling for an “end to the inhumane and outdated practice”, and quickly garnered more than seven thousand signatures.
The company selling tickets for the event, Sistic, announced that it would not go ahead.
The show was due to take place at Resorts World Sentosa, on an island off Singapore, but was being put on by an outside production company.
