Bible seminars offered in Khulna to live following biblical teachings

Khulna (AsiaNews) - A group of 65 Catholics attended a Bible seminar last Friday held at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Khulna, southern Bangladesh. The meeting led by the local bishop, James Romen Boiragi, who also chairs the Episcopal Commission for Catechetics and Bible Apostolate (EC-CBA).
In addition to leading the study session, the prelate encouraged those present to study the Bible every day. "The purpose of the Bible seminar was to teach I, motivating our people to live according to its teachings," Bishop Romen Boiragi told AsiaNews. Mgr.
The one-day event attracted a cross-section of people, including homemakers, students, and various professionals. The bishop was aided by a few priests as well.
“The Holy Bible is the centre of our Christian life,” explained the bishop. “It helps us lead a perfect Christian life.”
With this in mind, “We taught how to share the Bible, gave people a free Bible, and encouraged them not just keep it at home, but to study it every day and encourage other family members to read it.”
People joined the seminar out of a desire to study the Holy Book on a regular basis and to lead their lives in the light of its teachings. One of them was Rebaca Mondal.
"I only hear God's message when I go to Sunday Mass,” said she. now “I have been given a Bible at the seminar, and will read it every day with my family at sunset during the rosary prayer.”
For her, “Attending the biblical seminary helped me understand the importance of studying the Bible. By reading it, I can also teach my children and others. It seems to me that every Christian should read the Bible regularly.”
Sumi Mondal, another participant, agrees with Rebaca. "In the past, I did not often study the Bible at home, but now I will do so during the rosary prayer in the evening.” He added that he is appreciative of what Bishop Romen Boiragi did leading the Bible seminar.
The EC-CBA seeks to guide, regulate and promote the catechetical and biblical apostolate in Bangladesh. It also helps prepare and disseminate catechetical and biblical materials in local languages as well as train Christian catechists and teachers.
Three Bible seminars were held in the Diocese of Khulna this year, Bishop Romen Boiragi told AsiaNews. More could not be organised because of the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, more Bible seminars will be prepared to be held in each parish so that parishioners can learn the Holy Book.
