by Sumon Corraya

Scripture Sunday was celebrated on the second Sunday of Advent,  in all parishes. The theme of this year's edition: "Lead a life according to the Bible". Bishop Rozario: "In its pages the living message of God that guides us through our days".

Dhaka (AsiaNews) - On 4th December, the Catholic Church in Bangladesh celebrated National Bible Day in all the country's parishes. All Catholics participated in celebrations with Scripture at the centre, honouring the Book with candles and garlands and listening to the celebrants' words on the importance of the Bible.

"In Bangladesh, we celebrate this National Bible Day on the second Sunday of Advent," Msgr. Emmanuel Kanon Rozario, Bishop of Barishal and president of the Bishops' Commission for Catechesis and Biblical Apostolate, tells AsiaNews.

"By observing this moment, we invite Christians to worship daily. As Christians, we believe that Scripture is the living message of God that guides us in our lives'.

The theme chosen for this year was 'Leading a life according to the Bible'. Quoting the prologue of the Gospel of John ("The Word became flesh, lived among us and we saw his glory"), Bishop Rozario recalled the entire life of Jesus, "his teaching and preaching, his suffering and resurrection are our good news of salvation".

For the president of the bishops' commission for catechesis and the biblical apostolate, the Bible has the power to renew life and make it new: "Reading it is like meeting Jesus Christ who will transform our lives. This is the aim of the Bible Apostolate, which, at different times of the year, the Churches in Bangladesh hold with a special focus on young people and parents.

Sofola Gomes, a believer from Tejgaon Parish in Dhaka, shared her testimony on the occasion of the National Bible Day. Gomes says: "Today I learnt that the Bible is the way to meet Jesus. From now on, therefore, I will read God's Word more assiduously and lead my life according to its teachings."
