Baluchistan: 23 Punjab citizens killed by separatist militiamen

Today's news: an increase in mpox (monkeypox) virus infections in the Philippines; Hamas rejects ceasefire conditions set by Israel in Cairo; Kim Jong Un witnesses war tests while visiting the Academy of Defence Sciences, new kamikaze drones unveiled by Korea; At least 22 dead in Thailand from flooding and mudslides caused by monsoon rains. 

PAKISTAN

Early this morning at least 23 people from Punjab were killed in the Musakhail district of Balochistan after gunmen unloaded passengers from trucks and buses and fired at them after checking their identity. This is the second attack by separatist militiamen on people from Punjab this year, in April there were nine victims.

PHILIPPINES

The Philippines confirmed two more mpox (monkeypox) virus infections of the milder clade 2 variety, bringing the number of infections to three. The newly confirmed cases are a 37-year-old man from Metro Manila who had a rash on his body last week and a 32-year-old man from the capital who had skin lesions on his body. 

GAZA - ISRAEL

Hamas rejected new conditions set by Israel in Gaza ceasefire talks in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, casting further doubt on the chances of a breakthrough in the latest US-backed effort to end the 10-month war. A Hamas delegation left Cairo on Sunday after meeting with mediators.

NORTH KOREA

Kim Jong Un visited the Defence Science Academy's Drone Institute on Saturday and witnessed a "successful test" of the drones that "correctly identified and destroyed designated targets after flying along several predetermined routes," the state-run Korean Central News Age agency reported. North Korea also unveiled new kamikaze drones, some of which look similar to those used by Russia in the released photos.

THAILAND

Flash floods across Thailand caused by monsoon rains have killed 22 people and injured 19, authorities said. Some provinces are at further risk, with 30,000 families unsafe. A Russian couple and nine migrant workers from neighbouring Myanmar were among the 13 people killed in a mudslide on the southern island of Phuket.

UKRAINE - RUSSIA

The Ukrainian Armed Forces hit with Neptun missiles, fired from the Odessa area, a tanker ship in the port of Kavkaz in the Krasnodar region, which was supposed to unload fuel on a railway line, triggering a huge fire that also blocked passage from the Kerč bridge, one of the main Ukrainian military targets.

GEORGIA

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Iraklij Kobakhidze, insisted on the prediction that in the autumn parliamentary elections only the Georgian Dream and the opponents of the National Movement will pass the 5% barrier to enter parliament, but the latter will be declared 'unconstitutional' and there will remain in the country 'only one democratically elected party'.
