Artificial intelligence to be added to customised school textbooks by 2025

South Korea's Education Ministry plans to provide every pupil with digital tools customised every learning level to better study maths, English, and information technologies. After the first phase, the authorities will decide whether to extend it to other subjects.

Seoul (AsiaNews/Agencies) – The South Korean government plans to introduce digital textbooks based on artificial intelligence and customised to students' learning levels in schools.

The Ministry of Education, which announced its plan today, wants these tools in place by 2025 starting with grades 3 and 4 pupils in primary schools and first-year students in middle and high schools, to be later extended to all grades by 2027.

Metaverse, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality technologies will underpin digital textbooks for mathematics, English, and information technology courses.

Once fully adopted, the digital tools for studying mathematics will provide AI-driven mentoring to help students tackle the most difficult problems.

Those in English will use speech recognition technology to aid listening and speaking exercises.

By next May, the Ministry will also decide whether to extend the digital textbook project to other subjects.

The plan includes training 1,500 teachers specialised in digital-based education.
