Archbishop of Karachi: Catholics as instruments of peace for 'positive change'

by Shafique Khokhar

In his message to the faithful at the beginning of the year, the prelate invites courage to continue with "renewed hope". Taking up the Pope's admonition, he recalls that it is the duty of all to pay attention "to the least among us". Promote justice "with forgiveness." Create "harmony" with a positive attitude, which unites.

Karachi (AsiaNews)-Archbishop Benny Mario Travas of the Archdiocese of Karachi in his especial message on the New Year has asked his people to be the instrument of peace and tolerance and be brave to bring positive change in the society and in our Country Pakistan.

Learning from past year, Prelate of the Catholic Church, said, "let us go ahead with new hopes to do well in this New Year, past is past therefore, let it go" and instead "join our hands to go ahead with the zeal of bringing peace to your families and in the society through your actions. He also remembered the words of Holy Father Pope Francis and said that “Peace demands concrete actions” and “it is built by being attentive to the least, by promoting justice, with the courage to forgive, thus extinguishing the fire of hatred.”

Archbishop Benny added "as Christians our mission is different, we seek to create harmony embracing a positive attitude and an attitude which unites us. There are people who rely on us, let us come to him and trust Him and do not be afraid because “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us” . "This will make us more like Him, more compassionate, tolerant and loving and this will make a big difference in our families and in our society."

He noted that "a serious threat to peace is intolerance; every individual has a duty to form their conscience in the light of truth which everyone the family plays a primary role in the important task of forming consciences." He asked "are we ready to do the will of the Father and every day we have to take up cross and may the face of Jesus our Lord shine upon you and bless you to do His will, let us promise to Him that we all will come closer and deeper friendship with Jesus," concluding "relationships take time and therefore take out time for Jesus."
