A career thanks to Mary's intercession
Bangkok (AsiaNews) When he was admitted into the Faculty of Medicine he said 50 Hail Marys each day for a month to thank her. Now that he is retired he wants to show God his gratitude by offering his assistance to Thai Catholic institution. In the Marian month of October, Dr Ignatius S. Chitra told AsiaNews the story of his life and his relationship to Our Lady.
"My success in my studies and professional career owes a lot to the help of Jesus Christ through the intercession of Mary. That was vividly clear to me when I passed the entrance exam at the Faculty of Medical Science, Chulalongkorn University. I repeated all five mysteries of the Rosary five times a day for a months to give thanks for getting what I wanted, i.e. admittance into the faculty."
"Now that I am retired, I'd like to contribute my God-given learning to society through Catholic organisations," he said.
"At present, talks are underway to determine whether I can head the St. Louise Hospital, which is run by the diocese Bangkok. The Catholic Office for Emergency Relief and Refugees (COERRS) is another Catholic organization that interests me."
Dr Chitra, who completed his pre-university studies at Assumption Collegewhich is run by the Congregation of St Gabrieland whose last post before retirement was as director of the Chulalongkorn Research Institute, follows the tradition of reciting the Rosary every day before mass during the Marian months of May and October.
Special masses are arranged on the opening and the closing of the month in order to invite the faithful to attend and give a particular devotion to Mary.
Members of the Legio Maria in every church must also visit homes to say the Rosary with the residents.
