Vatican: Promoting employment in tourism, particularly for young people

Message from the Vatican Dicastery for the service of integral human development. "Work, which is not only employment, but the way in which man realizes himself in society and in the world, is an essential part in determining the integral development of both the person and the community in which they live".

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - Encouraging work, "that puts the dignity of the person front and center", especially of young people, in the various sectors of tourism. This is the appeal launched by the Vatican Dicastery for the service of integral human development in view of the World Tourism Day, which will be celebrated on September 27th.

The appeal is also inspired by the theme of the next Day: "Tourism and Work: a better future for all". "The decision to treat the theme of tourism from the perspective of work - reads the document signed by the Card. Peter K. A. Turkson - appears particularly appropriate in view of the deep-rooted and growing criticalities that characterize the working dimension of life for very many people, at all latitudes. The desired objectives of peace, security, promotion and social inclusion cannot be achieved if we neglect the joint commitment to ensure everyone a decent, equitable, free work, built around the person and his primary needs for integral human development”.

"Where there is no work, there can be no progress, there can be no prosperity, and surely, there cannot be a better future. Work, which is not only employment, but the way in which man realizes himself in society and in the world, is an essential part in determining the integral development of both the person and the community in which they live ".

Finally, the document recalls that in his Message for the XXIV World Tourism Day, John Paul II explained that this sector “should be considered as a particular expression of social life, with economic, financial, cultural implications and with decisive consequences for individuals and peoples. Its direct relationship with the integral development of the person should direct its service, as with other human activities, towards the building of civilization in the most authentic and complete sense, to the building up of the "civilization of love" (see Sollicitudo rei socialis , No. 33) ".
