Pope Francis prayed this morning at the tomb of John Paul II
Today is the feast day of Pope Wojtyła who began his Petrine Ministry on 22 October 1978.
Vatican City (AsiaNews) – Pope Francis this morning visited the tomb of Saint John Paul II in the Vatican Basilica, for a brief prayer.
Today is the feast day of the Polish pontiff. On 22 October 1978, the former Archbishop of Krakow Karol Józef Wojtyła began his Petrine Ministry. Elected six days earlier, on 16 October, he was pope until his death on 2 April 2005.
He was beatified by Benedict XVI on 1 May 2011 and canonised by Pope Francis on 27 April 2014, together with John XXIII.
