Msgr John Lee Juo-wang is the new bishop of Tainan

The new 54-year-old prelate succeeds Msgr. Bosco Lin. As a child he was adopted by a Catholic family, who educated him in the faith.

Taipei (AsiaNews) – As of November 14, Msgr. John Lee Juo-wang, 54, is the new bishop of Tainan, one of the 7 dioceses of Taiwan, in the south-west of the island. Msgr. Lee succeeds Msgr. Bosco Lin Chi-nan, who has retired on having reached the age limit.

The new pastor was born on November 2, 1966, the ninth child of a large family. His parents, unable to look after him, gave him up for adoption to another Catholic family from whom he received the faith.

After studying with the Salesians and in the Tainan seminary, he became a priest in 1993.

In the midst of the many commitments of his pastoral ministry, he also obtained a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Urbanianum University. From 2019 he was vicar of the diocese.

Very involved in youth and vocation ministry, he often says: “I hope that people can understand from my life, that it is God who guides our lives”.

The diocese of Tainan is inhabited by about 7,500 faithful, out of a population of nearly 2 million.
