For the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, the Eucharistic gathering gives support to the missionary commitment of Christians. Gratitude for the missionaries, "the root from which the shoot was born" of the Taiwanese Church. Meetings are scheduled with the bishops and with the major seminarians. Appreciation of the Taipei government.
Vatican City (AsiaNews) - "This decision by the Holy Father to appoint me as a special envoy to the National Eucharistic Congress is justified above all because it responds to the experience of our Congregation for Evangelization, which comes to support the pastoral life of the Church in Taiwan," commented Card. Fernando Filoni, Prefect of Propaganda Fide, to AsiaNews after his appointment as special envoy to the Taiwan Eucharistic Congress, to be held on March 1 in Chiayi (Yunlin County).
This year is the fourth appointment of this type to be celebrated on the island. During the last ad limina visit, the bishops of Taiwan had invited Pope Francis himself to participate.
Pope Francis’ decision was welcomed by the Taiwanese government. On 7 January last, the foreign ministry expressed gratitude for the choice of the Pontiff, which demonstrates "the strong and cordial relations between Taiwan and the Holy See".
The theme of the Congress will be "“All my fountains are in you" (from Psalm 87). "Even this title - continued Card. Filoni - focuses on evangelization, because it says something of the roots from which the Taiwanese Church sprouts, which is the daughter of the efforts of many missionaries in the past and now of the witness of many local communities ".
During the Congress there will be many public and outdoor meetings. "This public act of worship - concluded the cardinal - is not just a visit, but a moment of meeting and participation, where the Church is reunited. This will allow me to meet the bishops, who live evangelization today, and the major seminary, which gathers those who will continue this work), in addition to the religious, the religious and the laity ".
