Pope: “Contemplation, closeness and abundance" help us enter into mystery of God’s intelligence
Vatican City ( AsiaNews) - "Contemplation, closeness and abundance" can help us cope with the amazing mystery of God's intelligence." These are the three "words" indicated by Pope Francis during the Mass celebrated this morning at Casa Santa Marta to try to "enter" into the mystery.
As reported by Vatican Radio , the Pope commenting on a passage from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans noted that when the Church "wants to tell us something," about the mystery of God , it "uses just one word : wonderful". This mystery, he continued, is "a wonderful mystery". "Contemplating the mystery, as Paul tells us here, of our salvation , our redemption, we can only understand it on our knees , in contemplation. Not only with intelligence. When intelligence wants to explain a mystery, always - always ! - It drives you crazy ! And this is how it has been throughout the history of the Church. Contemplation: intelligence, heart, knees, praying ... all together, this is how we enter into the mystery . That's the first word that perhaps will help us . "
The second word that will help us to enter into the mystery is "closeness". "One man created sin, one man saved us". "The God who is close ! "He is close to us, to our history". From the first moment "when he chose our father Abraham , he walked with His people ." And this is also seen with Jesus who had a "craftsman's job, he was a worker". "To me, the image that comes is that of a nurse, a nurse in a hospital: who heals wounds, one by one, but with his or her hands. God involves Himself, He meddles in our miseries, He is draws close to our wounds and heals them with his hands, and to have hands He became man. This is the personal work of Jesus. One man first sinned, one man comes to heal him. Closeness. God saves us not only by decree, by law; He saves us with tenderness, He save us with caresses, He saves us with His life for us. "
The third word is "abundance." "Where
sin abounds, grace abounds". "Each
one of us - he observed - knows his miseries, he knows them well. And how they abound!
" But
" God's challenge is to defeat this, to heal the wounds" as Jesus did. Moreover more, "give that superabundant
gift of his love, his grace." And
so " that preference of Jesus for sinners is understood." "Sin
abounded in the heart of this people. But He came to them with the superabundance
of grace and love. God's grace always wins, because it is He who gives himself,
He draws close, caresses us, to heal us .
And for this, but maybe some of us do not like to admit this , but those who
are closest to the heart of Jesus are sinners , because He goes to look for
them, He calls us all : ' Come, come ! ' . And when we
ask for an explanation, he says : ' But , those who are in good health do not
need a doctor, I have come to heal, to save ' . "
"Some
saints say that one of the ugliest sins is the distrust : distrust of
God." But
"how can we be wary of a God who is so close, so good, who prefers the
sinful heart ?" . This
mystery "is not easy to understand, we do not understand it well, with
intelligence ." Only,
"perhaps, will these three words help "contemplation, proximity and
abundance. God,
the Pope concluded , "always wins with the superabundance of his grace , with
His tenderness ", " with His wealth of mercy."
