Kathmandu: bishop tells young people at the First Communion to enlighten the lives of those who seek God
Kathmandu (AsiaNews) - May young Catholics, strengthened by the sacrament of Communion, "go into every street of Nepal, where people live with a spiritual hunger that arises from God's absence. Reach out and tell them the message of God! They are waiting to walk Christ's path. Lead them to a life in the Lord," said Mgr Paul Simick, apostolic vicar to Nepal, as he administered Communion to more than 30 children in Kathmandu's cathedral.
About 3,000 people accompanied the solemn procession for the feast of Christ the King, which ended in the Cathedral of the Assumption.
Following the Mass, young people responded to the bishop's call. "We would like to spread the Christian message," said one on behalf of all.
"We shall try to reach out to all those who have spiritual needs, regardless of caste, class, religion or age. Dear Jesus, we would like to reaffirm our faith in you and we thank you for the solemn experience of the Holy Spirit and its special gifts. "
Hundreds of non-Catholics were present in the church, on their way to embracing the faith by attending catechumenate courses. One of them was Hindu-born Deepak Tamang, who is currently taking regular catechism classes.
"I am so happy to live in the light of Christ," he told AsiaNews, a holy image and a candle in his hand.
"Before my life was dark, and maybe I was misguided. But God's plan led me to a Catholic church. Now I shall do everything to share the need for God's kingdom in my community."
