Kabul, Isis attacks military outpost

There were five militants, armed with rifles and rocket launchers. Five soldiers were killed and 10 wounded.

 Kabul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - At dawn this morning, a group of ISIS militants attacked the outpost near the military academy Marshal Fahim, in the western suburbs of the capital, killing five soldiers and wounding ten.

The Defense Ministry reports that there were five terrorists, armed with anti-tank rocket launchers and automatic rifles. Two of them blew themselves up, two were killed in clashes with the armed forces, while the last one was captured. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq press agency.

The assault arrives two days after an explosives-packed ambulance was detonated killing more than 100 people, and a week after the siege of the Intercontinental Hotel in which 20 people were killed. These last two attacks were claimed by the Taliban.

There is still little information on the group of ISIS militants who proclaim their loyalty to the Islamic State, active in the mountains of the eastern province of Nangarhar. According to some analysts, there is a subtle war between Isis and the Taliban for the domination of the region.

At yesterday's Angelus, Pope Francis launched an appeal for Afghanistan and the Afghan people forced to suffer "this inhumane violence".
