India first to exceed $ 100 billion in migrant remittances

INDIA

According to the latest United Nations report on migration in the world - released on May 8 in Dhaka - India was the largest recipient of remittances from abroad in 2022 with 111 billion US dollars, overtaking Mexico (61.1 billion dollars), China ( billion), the Philippines (.05 billion) and France (.04 billion). According to the report, India is the first nation to reach and surpass the 0 billion mark. Its revenue from 2010 to 2022 more than doubled.

ISRAEL-PALESTINE

A group of Israeli settlers yesterday launched an attack on the headquarters of the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem, setting fire to some trees located in the perimeter of the building in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini said the attack forced him to close the complex, given the ongoing security risk to the UN agency's staff members.

SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka will hold its eagerly awaited presidential elections - the first since the ousting of Gotabaia Rayapaksa in 2022 - on a day between September 17 and October 16. The Electoral Commission announced this yesterday, adding that it will ask for nominations to be submitted within the time limits set by the provisions of the Constitution.

SOUTH KOREA

Seoul will allow foreign doctors to work in its hospitals. The prime minister declared this, while the strike of doctors in training, which has lasted since February 20, shows no signs of resolution.
