Google’s "revenge": no Beijing stop for the new phone

Latest chapter in the war of nerves between the IT giant and Chinese government: the planned presentation of the Nexus in the capital cancelled. Hong Kong and Taipei confirmed instead.

Beijing (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The ongoing war between the Chinese government and Google shows no sign of stopping. The computer giant has decided to remove Beijing from list of cities on the presentation tour of its new phone, the Nexus One, instead keeping its appointment with Hong Kong and Taipei.

A source inside the U.S. company explains: "If Google had not had the well-known problems it had with the government, no doubt we would have brought the phone to Beijing".  Problems also encountered by the operating system Android, developed by Mountain View, which runs two new generation phones.

The U.S. company has in fact tried to limit its spread on the Chinese market, despite the fact that the government has repeatedly said - to calm investors - there will be no reprisals against the software developed by Google. However, analysts point to a dangerous decline in the telephone market, the largest in the world.

The battle between the two giants began on 12 January this year when the computer company warned China it was about to abandon the territory. The reason being, the frequent attacks conducted against their servers from hackers looking for sensitive data. The decision was supported by the U.S. government, although Beijing has repeatedly denied having anything to do with these violations.
