Extraordinary Missionary Month, a ‘time of encouragement and prayer’ in Bellary
The Diocese of Bellary has decided to dedicate 2020 to the mission. A regional convention of young people will be held in Karnataka on 24-27 October centred on ‘Young people caring for the earth for a better world’. The diocese makes recommendations to fully live Pope Francis’s invitation to the "outgoing" Church.
Mumbai (AsiaNews) – The Diocese of Bellary, in Karnataka, inaugurated the Extraordinary Missionary Month with a solemn ceremony on 2 October.
Speaking to AsiaNews, the local bishop, Mgr Henry D’Souza said that on that day the Diocesan Pastoral Council issued a statement indicating how to live this period, which Pope Francis ordered as a way to renew the baptismal pledge and reinvigorate the missionary zeal of an “outgoing” Church.
In its recommendations, the Council calls on all members of the Church to "strive to deepen their personal God experience” in order to bear witness to this encounter.
The Sunday liturgy and the month-long catechesis in October must focus on evangelisation whilst the World Missionary Day on 20 October must “be celebrated with effective catechesis on the mission mandate to the people.”
For the Council, this requires promoting children’s mission clubs in parishes and institutions as well as organising evangelisation workshops for lay people and clergy and mission teams interested in promoting Christian teachings.
To this end, talented lay people should be identified, encouraged, trained, involved and financially supported. Folders with the lives of the saints should be prepared, prayer and Bible study groups should be encouraged, and retreats should be organised at the parish level and at pilgrimage shrines to bear "witness to the faith".
Meanwhile, the Diocese of Bellary has decided to dedicate next year to the topic of the mission. The ceremony inaugurating Mission Year 2019-2020 will take place on 1st November in St Anthony's Cathedral.
This will be preceded on 24-27 October by a regional conference of Karnataka youth hosted by the diocese on the topic ‘Young people caring for the earth for a better world’.
