"Close to the pope and his great act of faith," says Daejeon bishop

by Joseph Yun Li-sun
Mgr Lazarus You Heung-sik tells AsiaNews that we must show "great respect for the Holy Father's conscience. His choice cannot be called into question."

Daejeon (AsiaNews) - The Korean Church, in communion with the universal Church, "respects the Holy Father's conscience. When the pope reflects in so serious a manner about himself and his full fidelity to God and the Church, one cannot call into question his decision," Mgr Lazarus You Heung-sik, bishop of Daejeon, told AsiaNews as he commented the resignation of Benedict XVI.

According to the prelate, "the Church, and I do not mean only the bishops and cardinals but rather the entire people of God, must take this decision for what it is. We must love our pontiff and do, as he did, an act of faith in the Lord. In the Year of Faith, which he convened, we can only rely on our faith."
