A month dedicated to raising awareness of the Holy Scriptures among children in Indonesia
Jakarta (AsiaNews) - In September, the Indonesian Catholic Church celebrated the month of Holy Scriptures with prayer meetings and lessons. The initiatives were promoted in various dioceses around the country.
The Kelompok Bakti Kasih Kemanusiaan (Kbkk), a charity group formed by the bishops, priests, nuns, priests and lay people, for over 15 years has organized prayer and reflection sessions in the house of a devotee in Pondok Indah, a suburb south of Jakarta. In Klender, East Jakarta, another group organizes regular monthly prayer groups, where children and adults participate together. In the Diocese of Malang in East Java province, Fr. Didik Bagiyowinadi Pr wrote a children’s book "Pelangi Kasih" ("The rainbow of love"), consisting of six volumes published over a period of 6 months at a cost of 2.90 Euros (25 thousand rupees). The book is designed to help teachers bring younger people closer to the Bible.
In Yogyakarta Fr. Augustine Nunung Wuryantoko, a priest of the local diocese and president of the forum of the parish churches of the city organized a seminar for teachers on how to prepare children for the use and reading of the Scriptures. In a similar initiative, Kanisius the publishing house has published a comic book for children.
