Dhaka (AsiaNews) - Representing the female figures in the film with respect and enhancing the role of women in the world of film and media: These are the demands that emerged from the international conference on women in cinema, organized as part of the 13th Dhaka International Film Festival ( DIFF), which closes today .

The festival which began on January 10 had as its theme "Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society". The program had a total of 180 films, with a special section for the Australian and Asian cinema.

The conference participants analyzed a common worldwide trend in the films on women, since the introduction of the genre. In most cases, these films arise for "economic" reasons: the aim is to attract the female audience representing "women's issues" , that generally revolve around domestic life, family, motherhood, personal sacrifice and romance.

However, during the conference some concern about the portrayal of women as sex symbols emerged, especially in big productions of Hollywood and Bollywood .
