Shoes and eggs against the Father” of Chinese censorship

Fan Binxing, the inventor of the Great Firewall that blocks and filters the Internet, was hit by a shoe. An egg however, missed the target. A twitter user claims responsibility.
Beijing (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Police are looking for a man who threw an egg and shoes at the designer of the China’s Great Firewall of web controls.

Fan Binxing Fang Binxing was giving a lecture at Wuhan University, Hubei province, when an egg flew by him, just missing him. However, a shoe did not miss its target.

A twitter user named Hanunyi claimed responsibility.

Fan, who is principal at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, is reviled by many bloggers and internet users for helping the Chinese government censor the internet. For this, he has been dubbed the Father of the Great Firewall.

This filtering system allows the authorities to block thousands of sites that contain words like “democracy”, “Tiananmen”, “Tibet”, “Dalai Lama”, “Falun Gong”, “social unrest” and “Jasmine Revolution”.

Recently, Chinese authorities set up the State Internet Information Office, a body to monitor censorship.
