Jenin, three Palestinians killed in a raid by the Israeli security forces

Two of the victims are members of Palestinian intelligence. The third is a militiaman linked to the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine. The interim government authorizes the "March of the flags" for June 15, fears of renewed violence. Two days after the Knesset vote to end the Netanyahu era.

Jerusalem (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Israeli security forces killed three Palestinians overnight in Jenin, north of the West Bank, during a shootout between the parties.

According to an Israeli source, security departments "carried out an operation to arrest two terrorists who carried out armed attacks" in the past. “A Palestinian who opened fire - the statement continues - was killed. Two other Palestinians were killed in the crossfire of bullets”. The Palestinian agency Wafa also speaks of three victims, without specifying.

Witnesses say that a patrol entered the city overnight to arrest Jamil al-Amouri and Wissam Abu Zaid, both members of the al-Quds brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine.

During the operation, a shooting ensued in which two members of Palestinian military intelligence, Adham Yasser Eleiwi and Tayseer Ayasa, were killed. Another element, Muhammad Samer Al-Bazour, was also seriously injured. The third victim is a militiaman linked to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.

One of the three Palestinians killed was suspected of having launched a gunshot attack on some Israeli soldiers in the past. During the operation, no casualties or injuries were recorded among the security forces of the Jewish state.

The overnight operation is just the latest in a long series of Israeli army operations in the West Bank: on 25 May a similar attack took place near Ramallah, killing a Palestinian.

Yesterday, meanwhile, the Israeli interim government gave the green light to the controversial "March of the Flags", wanted by the ultra-right in Jerusalem and suspended by the security forces for fear of new violence, if the police "approve the route ".

In May, a similar demonstration, coupled with the controversy over disputed properties in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, sparked a bloody bombardment between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, with hundreds of victims including several children.

The decision is the result of an agreement between outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Benny Gantz. The demonstration is scheduled for June 15 “by agreement between the organizers and the police”.

Two days earlier the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, is scheduled to vote on the new Bennett-Lapid government, at the head of a coalition that could oust Prime Minister Netanyahu after 12 years in power.
