Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai among most sought-after destinations in 2017 City Index

New York is still first, but Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong are second and third for business. The top ten includes Tokyo (fifth), Beijing (seventh), and Shanghai (tenth). The younger generation prefer Abu Dhabi and Tokyo. The data comes from the Ipsos Global survey of the best cities in which to live, work and visit.

Paris (AsiaNews) – Some cities in the Middle East and Asia have risen to the top as most desirable places in the world in which to live, work and do business, this according to the 2017 City Index by Ipsos Global.

Among Asian places of destination, Abu Dhabi moved into second position, gaining two places over the previous year. As a topnotch place for business, Hong Kong is tied third with London, whilst Tokyo, Beijing, and Shanghai place fifth, seventh, and tenth respectively.

Ipsos Global is a Paris-based global market research and a consulting firm with offices in 88 countries and more than 5,000 customers. For this study, it interviewed 18,557 adults aged 16-64 in 26 countries between 21 April and May 5 2017.

The best destinations were picked from a list of 60 cities. New York is still first, but Abu Dhabi is a close second. In fact, 21 per cent of respondents chose it as the top city for business, 2 per cent less than the Big Apple.

Gen(eration) Z (born in and after 1996) chose Los Angeles as best place to live, followed by Abu Dhabi and New York. In the overall ranking with work factored in Tokyo comes in third.

Millennials (1980-1995), and Gen(eration) X (1966-1979) also picked New York and Abu Dhabi but prefer Sidney and Paris (or London) to Tokyo and Los Angeles.

The story changes with baby boomers (1945-1965) who would like to live in cities like Sidney, Vancouver, Stockholm, Oslo, Vienna and Toronto, and do business in New York, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo.
