Archbishop of Singapore: a prayer for peace and for the summit between Kim and Trump

"May this be the beginning of a continuous effort to build strong relationships, free from the burden of fear and the burden of suspicion". The excitement of the citizens of Singapore. An opportunity for the island-state to "contribute to history". KNCA: establishing new relations between the two countries, for peace and denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. The White House responds: source of optimism.

Singapore (AsiaNews) - In addition to its strategic geographical location, "the citizens of Singapore are thrilled to be part of the historic summit - the first between a current president of the United States and the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea". André Ahchak, Director of Communications of the Archdiocese of Singapore, comments on the excitement with which the Singapore Church is awaiting tomorrow's summit between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump. "It is an opportunity for our tiny island multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-lingual nation to make a contribution to history and importantly to possible world and regional peace".

It is with this hope that last week, Archbishop of Singapore, Msgr. William Goh, asked for a prayer to be composed for the success of the summit.

This is the prayer shared "throughout the Archdiocese through traditional media and social media":

"Heavenly Father, we ask for the outpouring of Your grace on the momentous US-North Korea Summit here in Singapore on 12th June. We all desire to live in a world where there is peace, fraternal love, concern and charity for each other. Without peace, there can be no security, no progress and future for humanity.

Lord, we pray You will enlighten the political leaders to work for peace, justice and social order in the world. May this be the start of a continuous effort to building strong relationships, freed from the burden of fear and the weight of suspicion. May nations learn to trust each other and work towards world peace for all human kind.

Blessed Mother, you are our Mirror of Justice and Seat of Wisdom, we entrust this Summit to you. Holy Spirit, guide the leaders and officials so that “nation will not lift sword against nation, there will be no more training for war.” (Is 2:4)

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen".

Meanwhile, the wait for the summit draws to a close. The two leaders landed yesterday on the island. Today, after celebrating (three days in advance) his birthday, Trump called the South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The North Korean media have written extensively of Kim Jong-un's departure. KCNA reported that the summit will address the problems for the establishment of "new relations" between the two countries. The White House has accepted the words of the official North Korean agency, calling it a "source of optimism".
